" The
Babysitter " |
"We followed a lion
pride a full day on a dream trip to the Okavango in Botswana in Southern
Africa. One female had given birth to two cubs. Females separate from the
pride until the cubs are about one month old. Then she joins the pride
again, or the pride joins her, and that was exactly what we witnessed. When
the pride found her in the bush, everybody wanted to greet and sniff the
newborn pride members. the mother didn't want the other cubs close to the
new ones. Their games were too rough, the babies too delicate and fragile.
So, the males stayed away from that nice scene and watched the cubs, which
after playing like kids, settled down. This was the moment that inspired me
for this painting. I saw those males as real babysitters. So the choice of
the title for this piece was not difficult:
The Babysitter."

the Neighborhood " |
"It was interesting to show the power of nature,
painting a one thousand year old juniper tree growing on a rock, left there
in prehistory. So, the animals that I put in this magnificent scenery are
quite new to this incredible landscape, which was formed long before their
existence. The meaning of the title refers mainly to the above, but it can
also be interpreted that the cougar is new to the neighborhood and disturbs
the magpies or vice-versa;
I leave you, the viewer, the choice."

"The
inspiration for this painting came when I was doing fieldwork, studying
tigers in the Calgary Zoo. There, quite a few peacocks walked around
freely. Moving from the tigers to the lions, my attention was captured
at once by this nice young male peacock."

and the games get progressively more daring. On a recent trip to
Yellowstone, Brenders spotted two black cubs, frolicking and playing under
the watchful eye of their mother, who was eating berries nearby. |

" Trail Mix " |
"This little ground
squirrel was enjoying a mixture of plants and flowers, and those are among
my favorite subjects. I sometimes select my subjects to be able to paint
plants and flowers again. This was one of them. Active in the daytime,
ground squirrel love to sun themselves and make a variety of sounds such as
squeaks, chirps, chatters and even whistles to warn of predators."
