"Design With Pointe Shoes and Ribbons "
by artist Deborah Bays
"I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic of
late. I’ve had a long and varied life in the arts and am concerned
about the future of funding for and interest in the Fine Arts,
Music, Theatre and Dance. I think that the Arts are foundational to
a healthy society. I studied ballet when I was young and designed
costumes and sets for the ballet professionally during my three
decades working in the theatre. Ballet shoes are such beautiful
objects and take the light in such a soft way. It is ironic to me
that these shoes look so delicate yet support such athletic
movement. They are indeed an illusion".
"Pansies With Old Silver and Tin Can"
by artist Deborah Bays
"I make my home
in a Victorian cottage in the old section of Denver, Colorado. Through
the tall windows of my front parlor I see the browns and grays of the
still dormant garden. There is just a hint of green and a bit of yellow
and lavender in some early crocus blossoms. I tried to capture this
feeling in the colors chosen for this painting, lots of colorlessness
with a burst of yellow in the pansies. Very soon these pansies will be
planted in my garden. They love the spring snow.".
