" Somewhere hidden at the foot of the
towering Three Sisters near Canmore, Alberta lies a small cabin
draped in a blanket of pure white snow in which a family takes
refuge from the cold. Just across the small stream are two deer
weaving their way through trees and shadows, finally pausing at the
sight of the cabin's light castings its golden glow on the snow
outside. While the sun sinks behind the mountains, the lights will
dim as the family prepares for night in this winter solitude"
-Fred Buchwitz
Fred
Buchwitz came to Canada in 1949 from his birthplace, Germany, at the young
age of four. His family settled in the pristine Fraser Valley in Southern
British Columbia.
At
the age of fourteen, Buchwitz began to experiment with various painting
mediums. At first, he worked with poster paint but this proved to be
inadequate and restrictive. He eventually concluded that oil paints would
best suit his needs. Being self-taught, he managed to develop his own unique
style of painting that sets him apart from other artists. Fred grew up
surrounded by abundant natural beauty which provided bountiful ideas for his
work, ranging from crashing waves of the West Coast to the exhilarating
mountain vistas.

" A flock of Canadian geese spread their wings
over a placid lake for one last flight before darkness begins to quell the
magenta sky and drop its deep shadows over the brilliant snow of the Rocky
Mountains. A stream of glacier water trickling into a silvery lake and a
crackling fire blend to fill the evening air with nature's music. Trees
tower over a glowing cabin nestled cozily in the heart of a secluded
paradise. "
