John
H. Burrow has been living in Canada for the last thirtyfive years. He
was born in Webster, Massachusetts in 1955. His mother loved to
draw and paint and his father had a lifetime career as a master printer.
John’s childhood consisted of fun filled outdoor activities in Eastern
Canada and the colonial New England states.
At age 12 John won his
first art contest in the Boston Globe. After finishing high school in
Massachusetts, John continued his artistic pursuits at Utah State
University and the Los Angeles Art Center working in Commercial Art and
Art Education. College schooling helped John rub shoulders with some of
America’s most renowned artists in the American art world today. John
worked as a professional illustrator in Edmonton, Alberta, for various
advertising agencies. Then John started his own illustration and design
studio which he operated successfully for thirteen years.
Now John H. Burrow is a
highly accomplished oil painter, respected by professional artists,
galleries, and collectors throughout the world. With over 25 years of
solo and group exhibitions behind him he continues create “feel good
art” that everyone enjoys.
Clarity, and harmony is
the foundation to Johns work, resulting in an artistic taste &
sensibility. “His strong color and bold brush strokes display a
dimension in art that can only be achieved by the painterly process John
uses in his work.”
John Burrow's art has
appeared in Edmonton Magazine, Western Living Magazine, The Calgary
Herald, The Edmonton Journal, Alberta Report Magazine, Preview of the
Visual Arts Magazine, and many ski resort publications throughout the
Northwest. The artist has also displayed his art and been
interviewed on: ITV Television, CBC Television on two separate
occasions, The “A” Channel, and CBC’s
National Television
stations.
Burrow was commissioned
to produce illustrations for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary,
Canada. He
has been chosen to be
the UNICEF ARTIST FOR CANADA in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. And for
Canadian Greeting Cards Ltd. in 2007. He has traveled all around
North America attending art shows including the Calgary Stampede Western
Art Show and the Quebec Winter Carnival Art Shows.
John Burrows has taught
illustration and painting courses at Grant McEwan College, Okanagan
University College, and the Kelowna Art Gallery.
