Sonoran
Round-tailed Ground Squirrel by Wes Siegrist
"I noticed this cute little guy, and the rest of his family, scurrying
around their burrow, which was hidden up under a tangled mess of cacti
and bushes. Rachelle and I had spent the day exploring Saguaro
National Park in Tucson, AZ and considered the moments we sat watching
these squirrels as the “icing on the cake” for another perfect day in
the field as a wildlife artist"
"This goose is a
permanent resident in Oxford, Maryland after coming out on the winning
side of town debates for keeping her. She obliged us a visit early one
morning while we were out photographing boats in the marina but quickly
left in search of handouts when we came up empty handed".
"These Chilean Flamingos were working
the pond bottom in tandem so I emphasized a composition with them
together. The reflections in the water gave their surroundings a
pink glow which I played up to satisfy my artistic vision"
"My
initial reference for this painting came from a photo I took at the
Denver, CO zoo. The cat was being bathed in sunlight so I worked to
emphasize this warm light in the miniature. I stippled the
background for more of a traditional miniature portrait appearance
in the finished work"
"We
have a Redbud tree right outside our bedroom window that is a
favourite perch for our visiting Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The
cool morning temperatures had this little girl all puffed up like a
cotton ball"
