Some of Bralds' most beloved works
are his fanciful renditions of cats. In addition to the cats in A
Mixed Bag, he's included what he calls a Dasch(hund) mouse … or is
that two mice?
This litter of nine lives is sleeping off a
busy day spent gathering and assembling their own version of kitty litter.
Painted to perfection by our fabled fashioner of felines, Braldt Bralds,
you'll find among the colorful tissue and leftover packing peanuts an
assortment of other items purr-loined from his previous puss paintings
including tissue from Bag Ladies, pearls from Boucat and packing peanuts
from Siamese Twins.
Braldt also could not
resist a little play on words, giving a light twist to this formal piece.
Three of the four “pairs” of the title are not the edible sort. Pictured
are two California Spangled Tabbies, one silver, one brown; two Cymrics,
one Mackerel Tabby with white, one tuxedo; and two blue Turkish Angoras.
The two mice make the forth (and tastiest) pair offered at this table.
"I've always had a chuckle about labeling
packages "Fragile". It seems to insult the postal gods, and invites a little
revenge. But I like happy endings, and the misadventure in this picture's
story turns out okay." Arriving in perfectly crafted condition are a
Scottish Fold Calico, a Golden Persian, an American Burmese, a Turkish Van,
and a Chartreux. Can you guess the breed of the hidden cat?

While leafing through a book on Dutch
master still lifes, it struck Braldt that in many parts of Europe —including
his native Holland—“bouquet” is pronounced “booket.” Always on the prowl for
puns, he leaped on the concept of Boucat. The glorious array of cats
features a Birman, Oci, Somali, Blue British Shorthair, Red Maine Coon, an
American Gray Shorthair and a Snowshoe.
