When we were children, winter meant one thing: snowy
fun. It meant days off from school spent building
snowmen, sledding down the tallest, scariest hill in
town or stockpiling snowballs for the battle of the
year. As adults, we often lose sight of the magic of
winter amidst thoughts of shoveling the driveway or
frozen water pipes. We forget the simple pleasures
of skating on a frozen pond, mitten-in-mitten with a
loved one. Paul Landry has not forgotten and Bay Skaters,
his newest Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited
Edition, celebrates the very best of winter. This
classic New England scene will bring good cheer and
warm memories all year long.
From the rectangle
of soft light through the curtains to the fallen blossoms on the tabletop,
it’s the quiet details of this
still life that inspires peaceful, nostalgic emotions.
.“For
generations, schooners and other craft have fished the banks off of New
England, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia,” They could be out for weeks at a
time, fishing until their vessels could hold no more, before racing back
home from the banks. My Uncle Joe and his sons sailed these crafts in the
1930s and ’40s, and shared many sea stories with me. As much as they found
fun and excitement on the water, one of their fondest memories was returning
home afterward.”
From
snowsuit paralysis to the triple-dog-dare of the tongue-on-a-frozen-flagpole
to the Old Man’s “Major Award” burning bright in the front window, humorist
Jean Shepherd’s tale of Christmas with the family has become a modern
classic.
Artist Paul Landry
is known for his images of colorful gardens and scenes of maritime life. In
his latest fine art limited edition, A Sailor's Garden, Landry combines both
of these worlds to create both a beautiful composition and a collector's
dream come true. Radiant with hues and warm with nostalgic ambiance,
Landry's images tenderly wed flowers with our own universal fond memories.
His own love of gardening is his inspiration. Of A Sailor's Garden, Landry
says "Even though the sailor may be at sea for months at a time and enjoy it
immensely, he also loves the time spent in his garden caring for the earth.
Both sea and land calling his heart and hand. But, I wonder, if he had to
make a choice, would he agree that there is no place like home? And is there
truly any other place like your own garden?"
Whether it’s a warm
memory of his childhood in Nova Scotia or the simple charm of New England
life, Paul Landry presents us with his enduring message of hope and home.

“It’s... it’s... it’s indescribably beautiful! It reminds me of the Fourth
of July!” – The Old Man admiring his "major award"
We move in for a close-up of the Parkers’ home on
Cleveland Street, focusing on the Old Man’s “Major Award”—a garish lamp in
the shape of a woman’s leg.
Whether it’s a warm

A
gardener is drawn to a flower market like a kid to a candy store. Just the
sight of flourishing blossoms can put a long winter in the past. The flower
wagon gardener in this scene is getting ready to go out for a day of making
our summer dreams come true. With its variety of beautiful colors, textures,
shapes and fragrances, there is nothing like a bounty of flowers to lift
one’s spirits.
Celebrating one of
the happiest moments of a lifetime – the wedding day. As the blissful couple
makes their way through a small crowd of their treasured friends and family,
they are off to their new life together by way of an elegant horse drawn
carriage.
As the Christmas
season draws near, we find ourselves reflecting on who we are and how much
our family, friends and freedom mean to us. Our hearts wish that the joy of
the season could last all through the year.
Feathery clouds
roll by above, sending down their breezes to blow off the water and cool the
shore. Paul Landry invites you to join him on another tranquil excursion on
(through) this beautiful summer’s day. The winds billow the boats’ sails and
sending their passengers off to a day of adventure and fun on the water.
Those who decide to stay ashore can fill their day fishing, picnicing or
lazing in the sun. No matter how you choose to spend this most perfect of
days, you’ll be able to return again and again as this piece brightens the
mood of any room.
Paul Landry fondly
remembers his autumn visits to Aunt Martha’s farm and tasting the secret
ingredient of her apple pie. “She didn’t live very far from us but it always
seemed like a long ride because we couldn’t wait to get there. She had
vegetable bins filled to overflowing, baskets of glorious flowers, big
pumpkins waiting to be carved and plenty of green and red apples for making
pies. But when she baked her apple pie, you had to be quick. They were the
perfect blend of sweet and tart and she’d tempt you with warm slices. Who
could resist?”

In Eventide, Paul
has tried to capture the atmosphere of a harbor town rich with such a
heritage and pride. And, in such a place, even the oldest and most ornery of
these salts pause to take notice of such a majestic end to the working day.
