Buffalo in Storm
by James Bama
Ask James Bama why he went into Western art and he
will tell you quite plainly: he didn’t. “Norman
Rockwell lived in New England and so he painted
small town scenes and harbors. I happen to live out
West, so I paint the Indians, ranchers and
landscapes I see.” Bama’s portraits of today’s
denizens of the West are thoroughly modern, but
their occupations, dress and spirit echo those of
their predecessors centuries ago.
More than any other animal, the buffalo embodies the
rugged tenacity required to survive on the frontier.
The day Bama encountered this buffalo, the snow was
fourteen inches deep and the animal’s coat and
hooves were crusted with ice, but still the animal
ventured on. This evocative winter scene follows in
the footsteps of the immensely successful
Chuck Wagon in the Snow,
Old Saddle in the Snow
and Old Sod House.

The Eucalyptus Coast
by June Carey
“The first time I saw the northern California coast
and the sweeps of green hills plunging down to the
Pacific Ocean, I felt it was too beautiful to be
real,” says June Carey.
“Just north of San Francisco, there are still places
as unspoiled as this farm. As soon as the winter
rains end, the green grasses turn golden brown. In
between the grazing lands like this are forests of
oak, cypress and eucalyptus. The eucalyptuses are a
beautiful part of our relatively young history here.
They have thrived and grown large against the
powerful cold winds that blow off the Pacific
waters. Like people, with their many textures, moods
and colors, they are a tribute to the character,
strength, and spirit of survival in the West.”
At 54 inches wide, this expansive June Carey
landscape will provide any room with a breathtaking
view of the California coast. Be one of the few to
own this stunning scene of California as
The Eucalyptus Coast

Virtue
by James C. Christensen
To walk safely through the maze of human life,
one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of
virtue.
-Buddha
In the tradition of
Saint with White Sleeves,
The Beggar Princess and
the Magic Rose and
Sleeper Lost in Dreams
comes Virtue,
a beautiful and inspirational message of hope. The
graceful young woman depicted may walk a dark path,
but with determination and focus as her guiding
principles she will surely find her way.
Incorporating one of James C. Christensen’s most
popular recurring themes,
Virtue
serves as a classic and elegant reminder to stay
true to your beliefs, that faith and strength will
see you through the dark times.
“The candle is a symbol of light in the spirit,”
says Christensen. “The candle is about being an
example to others, but it’s also about keeping that
light shining for yourself. Be true to yourself and
to the things you know are important and don’t let
the world taint you.”

Duet
by Steve Hanks
“When a child is learning a musical instrument,”
says Steve Hanks, “it’s difficult for the student as
well as their family to patiently endure the
practice time. The presence of the cat in
Duet
shows that practice has paid off and now the music
is so comforting that even the family cat will stay
around to enjoy it.
“My paintings of children are about my hopes and
dreams for them, and about my desire to expose them
to the arts: literature, art, music, dance and
theater. I want to encourage them to make decisions
for themselves, to stand on their own two feet, to
think for themselves and to reach for their dreams.”
This Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Anniversary Giclée

beloved paintings, will make a heartwarming addition
to any music room or office or a thoughtful gift for
the aspiring musician in your life.

Bay Skaters
by Paul Landry
When we were children, winter meant one thing: snowy
fun. It meant days off from school spent building
snowmen, sledding down the tallest, scariest hill in
town or stockpiling snowballs for the battle of the
year. As adults, we often lose sight of the magic of
winter amidst thoughts of shoveling the driveway or
frozen water pipes. We forget the simple pleasures
of skating on a frozen pond, mitten-in-mitten with a
loved one. Paul Landry has not forgotten and
Bay Skaters,
his newest Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited
Edition, celebrates the very best of winter. This
classic New England scene will bring good cheer and
warm memories all year long.

Dance of Cloud and Cliff
by Stephen Lyman
Why should you buy
Dance of Cloud and Cliff?
This is perhaps Stephen Lyman’s most perfect
painting of Yosemite National Park—indeed, it is
perhaps the finest painting of Yosemite you will
ever see. Stephen Lyman knew the trails—both charted
and uncharted—and terrain of Yosemite as well the
lines in his own palm. His magnificent depiction of
Half Dome captures the grandeur of the landscape the
way that no photograph ever could.
“I saw Yosemite’s Half Dome, caressed by gossamer
clouds and bathed in the fleeting alpenglow,” said
Lyman. “Can words convey this mountain drama? This
is why I paint the wilderness.”
Stephen Lyman’s romance with Yosemite lasted a
lifetime. The countless sunsets he spent clambering
around its slopes and valleys left him with an
understanding of the park and a reverence for the
land that will never be duplicated. If any painting
by an artist can be called a self-portrait,
Dance of Cloud and Cliff
is truly a self-portrait of this artist and his
great, abiding spirit.

Maxfield's Garden
by Bonnie Marris
The first year of a foal’s life is essential to its
development into a strong and healthy adult horse.
For the first few months, the mare will devote her
energy to protecting her foal from predators and the
elements, and from other curious horses in the herd.
After three months or so the mare will assume the
role of teacher for her foal. By carefully observing
its mother’s behavior, the foal will gain a gentle
introduction to finding food and water, recognizing
danger, and social dynamics within the herd. Like a
human mother, the mare assesses her foal’s needs and
provides for them with a tenderness that touches the
heart.
Bonnie Marris’s gentle wildlife family scenes echo
human experiences that are both beautiful and
universal. Like Queen
Anne’s Lace, her
popular mother-and-foal scene,
Maxfield’s Garden
is a sweet tribute to the most perfect bond of all.

One if by Land
by Emily McPhie
There are few sureties in this life, it is said, but
one of them is that every little girl will someday
grow up. From her first tooth to her first date, the
milestones in every child’s life seem to come more
quickly with every passing day. Every parent can
remember the first time they took the training
wheels off their child’s bicycle and watched their
little one ride away, feeling a mixture of pride and
apprehension.
The beautiful autumn scene in Emily McPhie’s newest
Fine Art Limited Edition
One if By Land
tells such a story. Fall has come to the path
through the park and as the little girl rides by,
the heavy leaves fall from their trees. It is a time
of change, a time of remembering the treasures of
the past and of looking forward to the future.
Emily McPhie’s dreamy paintings are touched with the
tenderness of young motherhood. Her portraits of
women and children convey universal messages of
love, determination, and hope.

I´ll Hold You in My Dreams
by William S. Phillips
The American Homefront Series, an episodic look at
home during World War II, comprises some of William
S. Phillips’ most popular and sought-after works:
If Only In My Dreams
(1942); A Christmas Leave, When Dreams Come True
(1943); Summer of ’45: And All Creation Rejoiced
(1945) and
The Dream Fulfilled, Where the
Love Light Shines (1945).
The only “war year” Phillips missed from the series
was 1944 and with I´ll
Hold You in My Dreams,
Phillips’ first American Homefront painting in over
ten years, each year of WWII will be honored.
In this final painting, the focus of the story
shifts to the West Coast where our young aviator
departs from Santa Barbara, bound for San Francisco
and a ship that will take him to war in the Pacific.
Young soldiers departing in 1944 had a tough road
ahead of them—some of the worst battles of the war
were yet to come and there seemed to be no end to
the fighting in sight—but they held their heads high
as they bid their families farewell.
In the rush to transport troops to the Pacific via
the West Coast, passenger trains such as the
Southern Pacific “Daylight” locomotives were
repurposed, and many a soldier found himself kissing
his loved ones goodbye as a “Daylight” steam train
pulled into the station.

Cool Runnings
by Daniel Smith
In prehistoric times bears were revered as gods. To
this day, the power and magnificence of the bear
stirs our imagination and emotions.
Cool Runnings
is a captivating portrait of an animal who has
inspired both fear and fascination in mankind for
millennia. Smith’s realistic style brings every drop
of water and each wet hair on the grizzly’s face
into sharp focus, making it clear that the artist
has spent years studying these remarkable creatures.
Smith received the Artist of Distinction Award at
the second annual Quest for the West Art Show and
Sale at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and
Western Art. He has been invited to participate in
the Autry National Center’s prestigious Masters of
the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale for
the fifth year in a row, and Art of the West
magazine recently dubbed him one of the “heirs

Feeding the Geese
by Morgan Weistling
“Growing up on the farm,” says Morgan Weistling, “I
always loved to feed the animals. This painting
brings back childhood memories of my two sisters and
myself.
“I love to paint geese because their natural design
is so decorative. I named each goose as I painted
it—I had Daisy, Lobelia, Bungo, Pippin, Eleanor and
Hamfast—and had some fun painting Bingo, the lone
duck, peering out at the viewer.”
Morgan was recently featured in Western Art
Collector Magazine in an article that declared, “…he
can paint any subject matter—still life, landscape
or figurative work. His painterly style, control of
light and color values are outstanding.” Weistling
was also heralded as an “heir apparent” to modern
Western masters Howard Terpning and Mian Situ in Art
of the West Magazine’s 20th Anniversary.

The Burden of the Responsible Man
by James C. Christensen
"Did you ever feel the weight of the world on your
shoulders? When I painted
The Burden of the Responsible
Man I felt overwhelmed
by how much everybody expected from me. I felt as if
life was taking everything I had and not giving much
back, just dangling a carrot to keep me going. Even
this man's pet, a hedgehog, needs to be fed and
taken for walks, but is too prickly to offer warm 'cuddlies'
in return. But the man's a responsible person and so
he just keeps plodding along. That's the point. I
just kept plodding along, too, and things got
better. I discovered that my burdens were really
blessings and challenges necessary for my growth."

Waiting in the Rain

After a period of personal loss, Steve Hanks began a
series of paintings visualizing his healing process.
This inspiring series, which can be found in its
entirety in the new book
Moving On: The Art of Steve
Hanks, follows the
artist's emotional journey from despair to hope.
Waiting in the Rain is
one of the last paintings in the healing series.
"At this point I had come out of my sadness. I began
to think about the future. I thought about the kind
of person I would want to come into my life," says
Hanks. "Waiting in the
Rain is the
visualization of that person, someone supportive and
faithful. We would all like to have someone there
waiting for us when return from a trip."

Redd Rocket
by Dean Morrissey
In 1994, Dean Morrissey published his illustrated
children’s book Ship of
Dreams, the story of a
young boy’s voyage with the Sandman across the night
sky. The book was an instant success, winning praise
from People magazine, The New York Times
Book Review and others. In the years since its
publication, Ship of
Dreams has sold over
300,000 copies and has been translated into several
languages.
Redd Rocket
brings together all the best features of a Dean
Morrissey painting: rich, deep colors; fastidious
attention to texture and detail; skilled composition
and a little touch of storytelling magic. It will

Preparing for the Festival, San Francisco, 1904
by Mian Situ
On the fifteenth day of the first month of the lunar
year, the center of every town, city and village in
China glows with the light from hundreds of paper
lanterns. The Shang Yuan festival (or lantern
festival) draws families from their homes into the
packed streets to bask in the auspicious red light
of the new year. Riddles are written and solved and
yuan xiao or sticky rice dumplings are eaten to
celebrate harmony and happiness in every family.
The family in Mian Situ’s
Preparing for the Festival,
San Francisco, 1904 is
a long way from China, but love and a pioneering
spirit keep these important traditions alive in the
land they now call home. Situ specifically composed
this painting for and donated it to the silent
auction at the 20th Anniversary Autry Gala this past
September, where the winning bid reached $150,000.

Waterline
by Joshua Spies
The zebra, like most members of the horse family, is
a highly social animal. Mountain zebras and plains
zebras form family groups that will remain together
for a lifetime, grazing, migrating and stopping to
drink together. Joshua Spies has captured a family
of zebras in the magnificent light of an African
sunset on the Waterline.
Although based in South Dakota, Joshua Spies has a
world of wildlife experience under his belt. His
frequent trips across North America and into Africa
have supplied him with an entire animal kingdom’s
worth of subjects. “On a recent safari to South
Africa I took over 2,500 photographs!” says Spies.
“Many times these photographs not only help with
detail, light and color, but are the inspiration for
a new work. I really look forward to doing something
new and challenging in each new creation!”

The Long Trail Ahead
by Howard Terpning®
“Blackfoot warriors often traveled great distances
on foot,” says Howard Terpning. “There are accounts
of men walking as far south as Mexico (the
“always-summer land”) to obtain horses. A lone
warrior might decide to explore an unfamiliar part
of the country; travel alone and on foot to seek out
and avenge an enemy or to perhaps steal horses from
that enemy. Whatever this man’s reason was for
walking a great distance we can only speculate, but
he had the survival skills and stamina to accomplish
just about anything he set out to do … provided he
avoided enemy war parties.”

— Alice Walker
In the last year, artist Morgan Weistling has been
the winner of a number of prestigious awards,

Sisters is a warm

a relationship that will only grow stronger in the
face of adversity and with the passage of time.

Pow-Wow Dancer

“This pow-wow dancer and his wife were hired to
dance on Native American Day at the Buffalo Bill
Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. The museum staff
told me about this great-looking guy. He agreed to

James Bama’s modern realism approaches the
larger-than-life romance of the West from a new

people, doing real work, with the history of
generations past written in their faces and the
surrounding landscapes.

Sand Creek Memories
by Don Crowley
The Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 remains one of the
most horrific events in the history of the United
States. Under the pretext of defending the growing
city of Denver, Colorado, United States troops,
under the command of Colonel John Chivington,
attacked a camp of peaceful Cheyenne. The majority
of Cheyenne warriors had left on a hunt, but the
American soldiers slaughtered every Native American
they could find, including women, the elderly and
children. Chivington reported that between five and
six hundred warriors were killed; in truth, about 53
men and over a hundred women and children were
murdered. The battle has remained an ugly scar on
the face of the southwest United States.
The Cheyenne subject of Don Crowley’s
Sand Creek Memories
pays tribute to the memory of his fallen tribesmen.
This moving portrait is a memorial to the departed
and a plea for peace, that we may not make the same
mistake in allowing such atrocities again.

The hush of an autumn morning is barely broken by
the quiet rushing of water and the splashing steps

Engaged
by Nelson Boren
The average painting by Nelson Boren embodies a number of the artist's
qualities-fastidious attention to detail, a tender eye for texture and a
respect for the hard-working people of the modern West. But what makes
Nelson Boren's paintings unique is his playful composition and the
teasing close-ups that invite each viewer to create his or her own
story.
Engaged is no
different. Two dusty, hard-working folks sit beside one another holding
hands, perhaps a little excited, as the title suggests, with their new
arrangement. But the rest of the story is up to you.

It is summer in Iroquois territory and the tribe has set up their
temporary camp on the banks of a river, where the fish and game are
plentiful. At the end of the season the men and women will pack up their
huts and move to higher ground, where the winter floods will not reach
them.
Content that their work in the camp is done, a group of men set out

Lost in Chianti
by June Carey
“This scene has actually been in the works for several years. I love
village scenes and I think this will be the first of many. I hadn’t
planned to include the figures or the dog when I began. My friend in
Italy had a sweet yellow Lab who was my buddy when I stayed there, but
he got sick and passed away, so I wanted to put him in the picture. Even
though the poster says my yellow Lab is lost, you can see him coming up
the street. I added the women because I feel that the people are as
beautiful a part of Tuscany as the land and the history. Perso means
“lost” and I usually am lost when I’m there! I don’t know where this
village is—I hope that I can get lost there again sometime and that I
can recognize the place!”

Fiona
by James C. Christensen
Clothed in garb of cobwebs and moonlight,
Fiona catches your gaze. Like all of the
sídhe (faeries) she is breathtakingly beautiful, but Fiona is more than
meets the eye. Celtic legends tell of men and women who followed the
unearthly music of the faeries deep into the woods and were never seen
again. Other folk tell a friendlier tale of the leanan sídhe, the faerie
muses who protect artists and poets in exchange for their immortal love.
James Christensen’s Fiona
shines in her natural adornments. If you look closely, you’ll see the
half-hidden subjects of her kingdom: flowers, animals and insects,
hidden amid her garments. If you look closer still, you just might find
exactly what you seek, but beware—the promises of faeries are fleeting
and nothing is ever quite what it seems.
