“It amazes me that Emperor penguins manage to survive, given the extraordinary circumstances of their lives. Unlike many (most?) creatures, it’s the males who nurture the young, under conditions that are among the most challenging on the globe. To us, perhaps, these chicks appear the same. My choice of colour is a way to indicate that each is a distinct individual.”
