The “Accidental Artist”

Despite having a father who is an accomplished artist, Brenda went most of her life without trying any sort of art activities. Instead, she went the academic route, got her MD and was quite content with her medical practice and raising her family. This changed in late 2015 when she did pick up a paintbrush. It was quite by accident and there certainly was no intent to actually paint. However, she was immediately captivated by the colours and the way the pigments moved on the paper. She has been painting and learning watercolour ever since. She has participated in solo and group shows and has even won a few awards for her painting. Other art activities include pottery and mosaics. She is now retired from medicine and splits her time between Edmonton and her studio in Spruce Grove. She spends as much time as possible painting, potting and roaming the mountains. There may also be some pickleball participation. She is an associate member of both the Society of Western Canadian Artists and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour. She is involved with The Night of Artists Gallery in Edmonton and you can find her pottery, prints and art cards there. She occasionally teaches beginner watercolour and hand building pottery classes. One of the highlights of her days is volunteering with some elderly seniors at the Jubilee Lodge in Edmonton. These lovely ladies and the watercolours they produce are definitely a source of beauty and inspiration. She is a founding member of “The Heine Art Group” – a small group of artists who learn under the mentorship of Jerry Heine. She and the other “HAGs” regularly paint together and show their work in Edmonton.
She is ever grateful for this “accident”.
