This piece was based off a photo I took at the Toronto Zoo. There were about six wolves there, and as I observed them, it was clear to me that they were very fond of one another. They were playing and lovingly brushing up close beside each other. I was fascinated watching them interact, and in awe of their beauty. In the reference photo for this particular piece, I liked how the wolf is looking over his shoulder, causing the viewer to wonder what he’s looking at. Furthermore, I liked that there is another wolf standing very close by, in congruence to him. I wanted to subtly capture the essence of the wolves’ pack mentality, as well as do their exquisite beauty justice.
