Artwork Description

Once again, Thomas Arvid stuns us with his creativity and talent. With “History Becomes Art,” Arvid celebrates the 1976 French blind wine tasting, The Judgement of Paris. Much to the shock of the rest of the world, particularly the French, the American wines dominated the competition and took home first place for both Chardonnay and Cabernet. Using a backdrop of the newsprint commemorating this historic event that put Napa wines on the world stage, Arvid uses his signature rich oils and hyperrealism to showcase the winning Cabernet. The limited-edition is printed on paper mounted on masonite to best represent the original oil on paper mounted on board. Created as a donation for the St Helena Historical Society, “History Becomes Art” represents Arvid’s close ties to philanthropy and to the Napa Valley. Giving back to his communities has always been important to Arvid, and what better way to give back to the valley that has been so good to him than to ensure that its rich and entertaining history is preserved.
