“I have for a long time been interested in the combination of birds and flowers as subjects for paintings. Because I don’t have much of a green thumb, these gladiolas were in my neighbors yard – they were sunlit against dark vegetation- which is my favorite kind of lighting. I added the ruby throat as I thought it would add a softness to the scene. To imply movement I rendered the hummingbird with soft edges. I hope the viewer of the piece enjoys it as much as I enjoyed painting it”.
