As we wait patiently for springtime to arrive here in Alberta, there is a way to immerse
ourselves in the familiar heralds of spring through artwork. Paintings give us images that reflect
the season. They include the emergence of seasonal flowers, green hues, the appearance of
hibernating animals, birds bursting into bright plumage, hares turning from white to brown and
reflections on water as the ice melts. The freshness of the greenery and colourful blooms raises
our mood as we gaze at these images. It is the promise of new beginnings, warmth and growth.

Famous examples include:

Throughout art history we can see the symbolism of spring as a true reflection of our enduring
fascination with the cyclical rhythms of nature and our connection with all living things. Artwork
is able to capture these moments and images of transition from the white blanket and brown
earth of winter to a riot of colour enabling us to enjoy them over and over.
At Picture This Gallery we showcase artists who expertly illustrate the season of rebirth and
renewal. Our Spring It On art show exhibits artwork that will delight and inspire you.
