Showcasing paper as my medium often occupies my attention in the tooling and cutting of each component. Other times my intent is to allow the paper to become an essential element of the design and moment. Here, a chickadee has identified an unusual opportunity to pause and perch momentarily. Its alluring spontaneity sets it apart from many other backyard birds. Presenting a chickadee in an engaging gesture while celebrating an amazing art paper offered up a delightful opportunity at the art table for me.. The energy, positive and negative shapes proved irresistible. And the illusion of depth is enhanced by actually cutting the shadows of the artwork in varying colours of paper to provide an authentic visual effect in any lighting situation while on display.
