Artwork Description
The motmots or Momotidae are a family of birds in the order Coraciiformes, which also includes the kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers. Despite their colourful plumage and long racket tails, they are more often identified in the understory of dense canopy by their soft, low hooting call. I was on the lookout for them during a recent trip to the Monteverde region of Costa Rica and was so pleased to find these while out for a solo walk along a jungle trail.
