At Picture This Gallery we have frequent art shows focusing on either a season, a specific type
of artwork, or individual artists. Whether you frequent art shows, or not here are some tips to
ensure your visit is enjoyable and interesting.
1. Invite a friend, whether they have the same taste in style, composition, or period the
discussion will allow you to appreciate the artwork constructively as well as aesthetically. They
may even notice things you have not.
2. Focus on the structure of the work. Look at the subject, the technique, the context, the
medium and how the artist constructed the piece.
3. We are here to serve you. Utilize the staff’s knowledge of the artist, the background of
the artwork and the artist; inquire about other works by the same artist, why the show is
focused on that specific theme and questions on the medium used.
4. Expand your appreciation, by viewing different types of artwork, whether oil, watercolour,
collage, or sculpture. Notice how the artist has used a specific form to create the image.
5. Discuss and review your visit. What did you like the most and why? Were there pieces that
were emotive in some way? Which style, or medium were you drawn towards?
We currently have our Winter Art Show, you are most welcome to come and view the artwork.
