Tree of Life - Peacock
by Larisa Cheladyn
"The Tree of Life is found across many cultures and religions, where it can symbolize the cycle of life and death, divine wisdom, fertility, and the link between the earthly and spiritual realms. In Ukrainian folk culture, the Tree of Life occurs in various art forms. Frequently, birds are incorporated. Depending on the context, they can represent the bride and groom, ancestors, protecting souls, or children. Peacocks symbolize beauty, pride, spirituality, and good fortune and prosperity."

Tree of Life - Rooster
by Larisa Cheladyn
"The Tree of Life is found across many cultures and religions, where it can symbolize the cycle of life and death, divine wisdom, fertility, and the link between the earthly and spiritual realms. One of the most popular bird motifs that occurs on the tree of life is the rooster. As a protective symbol, its presence wards off evil spirits, making it a common motif in folk art like rozpys (decorative painting) from the region of Petrekivka and on Pysanky (Easter eggs). In some beliefs, it has magical powers linked to fertility and abundance. Modern Symbolism of resilience, strength, and hope comes from the Borodyanka Rooster: A ceramic rooster jug found intact on a kitchen cabinet amidst bombed ruins. It became a global symbol of Ukraine's unbreakable spirit and represents hope and the belief that Ukraine will prevail, even in the face of immense destruction."

ARTIST: James Corwin

RESIDES: Montana, USA

BIOGRAPHY: James Corwin designs distinct oil paintings through a unique balance of gestural paint techniques and precise detail. Primarily focused on wildlife Corwin aims to engage the viewer through his dynamic compositions that stir emotion.

With an appreciation for both fine detail and contemporary art, Corwin exquisitely marries the two in each painting with detailed subjects and loosely constructed backgrounds often exposing the underpainting and raw canvas.

Corwin gathers inspiration and references from his frequent travels to exotic destinations around the world. A trip to South Africa opened his eyes to threats of poaching on wildlife. Frequent trips back to Africa have allowed James to work directly with conservation efforts and starting the first Rhino Breeding Project.

Corwin has established himself as a widely collected artist at a very young age. His artwork is collected nationally and internationally as he participates in prestigious exhibitions and auctions throughout the year. He is the youngest artist to ever participate in both Dallas Safari Club and Safari Club International in Las Vegas.

Typically he paints 10-12 hours per day, 7 days a week. He also has two studios overlooking the white sandy beaches of Long Island, NY and located in Lakeside, MT overlooking Flathead Lake and the Swan Mountain Range.

By providing utmost quality and innovation in his painting, Corwin creates a sustaining legacy of integrity and loyalty in his art and conservation.

Corwin was born June 24, 1991 in Honolulu, HI.

Corwin was voted 2nd Best Artist of the Flathead 2015.

Lessons Motmot
by Charity Dakin
"The motmots or Momotidae are a family of birds in the order Coraciiformes, which also includes the kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers. Despite their colourful plumage and long racket tails, they are more often identified in the understory of dense canopy by their soft, low hooting call. I was on the lookout for them during a recent trip to the Monteverde region of Costa Rica and was so pleased to find these while out for a solo walk along a jungle trail."

Blue Jeans
by Charity Dakin
"While in Costa Rica, I was able to find several species of the colourful poison dart frogs, one of which was the blue jean poison dart frog (also known as the strawberry poison dart frog). Measuring less than 1 inch, these colourful little amphibians produce powerful skin toxins resulting from their diet, and can often be found among the forest floor and leaf litter. However, unlike many other frogs whose tadpoles develop in ground water, dart frogs will transport a tadpole to the bromeliads high up in the canopy, where the small central pool of the plant acts as a nursery for the developing tadpole. The frogs receive the protection of these hard-to-reach places while the bromeliads benefit from the waste nutrients produced by the frogs, demonstrating a wonderful example of the symbiotic relationships that so many tropical species capitalize on in this highly competitive environment."

Oil lends itself well for landscape scenes to capture the subtle shades and light of nature, while pencil drawings give the portraits depth and old time western feel.\

Busy Bee
by Kristen Federchuk
"Heralding the arrival of spring this busy little bee flits from apple blossom to apple blossom ensuring a bountiful harvest for the fall. I love the little details of a painting and the delicate details of the bee and the soft colors of the light reflecting thru the flower petals made this piece delightful to paint. The colors of this piece make it a complimentary match with my other little painting Dahlia"
