Gyrfalcon
by Alan Sakhavarz
"The largest falcon in the world, the ghostly Gyrfalcon is a fierce predator in the High Arctic, where it chases down ptarmigans in flight or plummets from the sky at breathtaking speeds to strike prey to the ground. Their nesting sites are on remote cliffs in the far reaches of Canada and Alaska,"

ARTIST: Mark Seabrook

Mark Seabrook, a gifted Ojibwe artist, poet, writer, performer, and playwright now resides on Manitoulin Island, his hometown, after exploring the Ottawa artistic and spiritual community.

Like many artists, Mark is an intriguing individual, sociable and solitary by turns. Both aspects are fuelled by a life that bridges the rural and the urban, – the primitive and the urbane.

He paints wherever he is, filling his canvases with bright blocks of acrylic colours layered later with more subtle care. His style is strongly reminiscent of another aboriginal artist, Norval Morriseau, – one of his sources of inspiration.

He is driven to record, again and again, bold images and symbols that speak eloquently of his Ojibwe heritage. Once his vision is recorded, he works with it, refining and enhancing it until he is satisfied and can move on to the next canvas.

Bear Moon
by Mark Seabrook
"The February Moon is known as Mukwa Geezis, or Bear Moon, for the Anishnabe people. Looking closely at the arm and within the bear, there are groupings of lines: 2, 3, 4 The 2 lines are for sun and moon, mother and father, earth and sky, etc. The 3 lines are for the sweetgrass teaching, body, mind and spirit. The 4 lines are for the four directions, the medicine wheel and gosh there are a great many teachings that go in with that one. "

Night Owl
by Suzie Seerey-Lester
"I love the mystery of birds and animals in the night. In this scene, this African Fishing Owl, is perched above you, watching what you are up to. While camping John and I would often sit outside the cabin or tent and watch what was happening while most people sleep. We saw a lot of amazing sights, including these amazing birds. Most owls are nocturnal and hunt at night, and their flight is silent, so the prey cannot hear them coming. In this, and all my paintings I have hidden my husband’s and my initials, (J+S) somewhere in the piece. See if you can find them. Owning a Seerey-Lester is like capturing Magic "

Watchful
by Cindy Sorley-Keichinger
"This barn owl was posing so beautifully that I of course had to paint him. While researching these birds I was surprised to find out that they are on every continent except for Antarctica! Their colour pattern varies a bit from place to place, but overall, if you know what a barn owl looks like, you will be able to pick it out any place in the world. This particular one is from Australia."

Nap Time Buddies
by Cindy Sorley-Keichinger
"This particular piece was inspired by a scene that I saw while we were in Kenya. During the heat of the day, the lion pride was napping and the youngest were in a creche that was guarded by a couple of adult females. It was cute as kids everywhere no matter their species delay sleep. In this case they were licking each other with great affection. You could tell these two cubs were the best of buddies."
